The House

Okay, I drove by the house this morning and took a few pictures of the outside. A few of you asked for the MLS#, but there isn't one. It was a HUD home, and wasn't listed anywhere except for the HUD page, and the minute our bid was accepted it wasn't there anymore either. So, here it is. I don't have any pictures of the "wonderful" interior :), but those will be coming some time. (You'll love the bright orange and red carpet, orange counter tops, and ugly carpet on the wall-yes, on the wall!!) The exterior is in really pretty good shape. It has almost 1,000 square feet on the first floor and almost that in the basement. It doesn't have any egress windows (yet), so the basement rooms can't be counted as square footage. It's in a really good part of town.
Here's the view from the back. You can see the addition and the screen porch that was added at some point. I'm a big fan, because it means there are nice, wide stairs down to the basement, a beautiful pantry/fruit room, and a good size dining area. The screened porch is a bonus for the mosquito infested summer evenings.
And here's the garage. It also needs a new roof and a few other things, but it has a nice wood stove, and look at all that room for Chris' pottery studio!! The realtor also told us that there's a pretty large slab driveway-can't wait to get the basketball hoop up in that driveway!(I think I'll have to wait, but I'm excited for it anyway.)
So, that's what you can see for now. We have the home inspection next week and then we start getting estimates, bids, and prices for the work we're going to do (or have done) so we know how much to take out in our loan.....
We have 45 days to get all of that done and close. So, we can start work in the middle of March at the latest.
Oh, and when I said yesterday that it was the first of two years of posts about that house I meant it's going to take AT LEAST that long to get the things done that we want to. I'm sure all you homeowners are thinking that there's NEVER an end to all the things you want to do with your house........

Ownership is a good thing, even if it requires a lot of work. In the end, you'll get what you want. Good for you!

Congratulations! I told Ryan about your interior - that's exactly the sort of thing he wants (yes, carpet on the walls). Good thing you found it instead of him - I might not have been able to get him to change it!

How exciting!! I guess I didn't realize you guys had been renting. What a perfect time to be able to shop around and find you perfect (potential) dream home! Can't wait to read all about it. I can already picture how great it will be.

So excited for you. I'd offer to help with the fix-up, but compared to the rest of your friends/family, I have no practical skills. Do you need someone to reviewing the closing docs? :). I want to see pictures of the carpeted walls :).

Yay for pictures! How fun. How perfect that you were able to find a place that has room for a pottery studio that also fit some of your other needs (at least potentially). I look forward to your updates =)
