Elsa's Pet

After about 6 months of saving her meager income (boosted from yard sale ventures and the county fair), Elsa finally was able to get the pet of her dreams!  A tortoise!  It is a Russian tortoise and she has chosen the name Toph for her.  For those of you who are Avatar:The Last Airbender fans, you may recognize the name.  Elsa chose it because her turtle is "tough like Toph".  Thankfully, Toph proved her name to be true in the 2 hour drive from the city pet store to our little town.  Elsa is very excited and could barely sleep last night because she "kept blowing kisses to Toph".
The photos below are from earlier today when we took Toph out to the front yard to explore, play, and exercise.  We have plenty to learn about tortoises, but it seems that she will be easy to take care of. Elsa keeps talking about how Toph can live longer than she can, and so she won't have to get a new one.  I'm wondering now if that's one of the reasons she chose a turtle.
So far what I like about Toph is that 1. She is quiet (unlike the 3 children in the house).  2. She doesn't move fast, and therefore will not run away and get lost/stuck in undesirable places (my family has a childhood hamster story).  3. She is easy to care for.
I think we will all enjoy having such a nice pet as Toph.

Ha, I just told Addy the hamster story! She thought that was pretty nasty. How big will Toph get? Seems like a pretty cool pet, I showed Addy the video on facebook and she thought that was pretty cool.
