Allergies

This is our little man Gibson.  He is allergic to many things.  We just got back today from the pediatric allergy specialist.  Gibson had the skin prick test on his arms (his back was too covered with eczema and hives).  he was very brave, especially for watching them prick it.  He did cry and scream, but he calmed down and recovered quickly.  So, he is allergic to weeds, grass, and trees, mold, dogs, cats, peanut and soy.  Wow!  No wonder his skin is so bad!  We know how to deal with the pollens and pets, but I'm feeling a little bewildered by the food allergy, especially soy.  Soy is in  A LOT of processed foods.  I had NO IDEA!  Well, in one day of shopping I have already become a super label reader.  It will be interesting to figure out the diet changes and continue to work with his eczema.  He is one tough little guy, and I hope knowing what we do now we can get his skin under control and he can be even happier.  Oh, and by the way, sunbutter-a peanut butter alternative made from sunflower seeds is actually pretty tasty! Wish us luck!

He looks so sweet in that picture. Poor little guy. I hope his skin clears fast. Good thing he has great parents like you guys. Good luck! (Why is it just peanuts and not other nuts that so many people are allergic to?)

Hang in there.. Both my kids have/had horrible eczema. My daughter is actually celiac, so i'm very knowledgable on reading lables now, and my son had the skin prick test at a year old and was/is allergic to dogs, eggs and outdoor mold. He has grown out of most of it, so there's hope! :D Keep up the good work, it's all worth it!

Poor guy, I am glad that you got it figured out. Hopefully Annie is right, and he can outgrow a lot of that stuff. At least now you can get him all better so he doesn't have to wear tights anymore! Ha ha, just kidding!

Try an all natural almond butter. It's yummy :-)

I miss that little guy. Tell him that I am very proud of him and that I think that he is the bravest boy in the world. Tell all the kids I miss that so much. Having great withdrawals from spring break visits!

Good Luck. Soy is in everything! Jacob has had eczema since he was a baby too. We try to get lotion on him at least every other day, but it doesn't alwas happen. We would recommend Aquaphor. The doctor may prescribe a steriod cream to get it under control at first. I haven't had to deal with many allergies (David is allergic to penicillin, fairly easy to avoid).

Oh wow -- poor kid. Poor Audra and Chris too -- that's a lot of work to avoid soy and peanuts and the like. I hope it goes well.

my bro was also VERY allergic as a child to many things. Luckily he grew out of it. I really like Almond butter as an alternative too.
